Tell us a little about your MSP…

Freedom Tech was established in 2011 in Rural Harnett County, NC – but is now headquartered in Raleigh with additional locations in Fuquay-Varina, Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Lillington, & Southern Pines, NC.

How long have you been a member of The 20?

 We’ve been a member of the 20 for about 4 months.

Why did your MSP originally look to partner with The 20?

Without customer service, you have nothing. Yes, we answer our phones live, but if our reception team couldn’t get an available tech at that moment, customers often felt they needed to make more calls or send more messages, usually to me. I’ve lost clients in the past solely because I couldn’t be in 3 places at once. We want our customers to have the ability to reach a technician any time they pick up the phone.

 

Tell us about the biggest change in your business since joining The 20.

Full Confidence to scale, knowing our customers will be under-promised, and over supported with the team on the help desk always ready to help. Now it doesn’t matter if the client as 1 computer, or 1,000 – I don’t have to worry, know we’ll take care of them, and I don’t have to find additional staff to do it.

What do you like most about being a member of The 20?

Our excitement & anticipation for the future. We’re now part of a team & collective that isn’t just hoping to help & grow the industry, but we’re doing it! A lot of IT Company’s are sitting around wishing, but The 20 is taking massive action to ensure we get where we want and need to be. Not later, NOW!. And the best part, there’s room for more on the journey.

What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success?

You have to be willing to take massive action. Period. Wether it’s lead gen, sales, or scaling. You have to take action this very second.

What are your biggest business challenges?

Honestly, lead gen is our weakest link currently. I can sell, I can fix – our lead gen pipeline is the area we’re working on more now.

What are your areas of focus for 2021?

 Sales, Sales, Sales, Sales, Sales, Sales, Sales. – The Core: Lead Gen + Sales + Scale.

What advice would you share with an MSP looking to scale their business?

Stop letting your pride, your family, your head trash, or whatever else keep you stuck. I promise you, if you’re looking for a team that isn’t stuck, The 20 is it.

As a Member Success Manager, I am responsible for on-boarding our new partners into The 20 and setting them up for success. This includes ensuring that they are properly set up and trained in our systems and methodologies.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

Growing up, I always enjoyed tinkering with things which made me think I wanted to be an engineer. Then I got my first PC, and I knew that I wanted to work with computers.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job? 

The most challenging part of my job is gaining the trust of new partners that are navigating a major change in their business operations.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? 

My greatest achievement is the continual self-growth I have achieved through hard work and determination.

What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success? 

The most important quality for success is determination. No matter what challenge you face, the only thing that can lead to failure is YOU quitting.

What do you like most about The 20? 

What I like most about The 20 is the sense of camaraderie between the employees, even through enduring a remote workforce, we are all on the same team.

What do you like to do in your spare time? / What are your hobbies? 

Pre-COVID, you would probably find me at a comedy club or traveling across the state and country. Now, I enjoy cooking delicious meals for my wife and relaxing with our animals.

Where are you going on your next vacation?

Colorado. My wife and I were supposed to go for our first anniversary but COVID hit, now we are going in late August for a friend’s wedding.

What’s your top life hack?

You just gotta keep livin’ man, L-I-V-I-N.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

Marine Biologist… until I realized I am actually scared of everything in the ocean ????

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

What do you consider your greatest achievement? 

Knowing all the words to Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady”

What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success? 

Dedication

What do you like most about The 20? 

I often describe The 20 as my dream job, so that’s a list we don’t have time for.

This isn’t a hobby… YET. I just bought a leash so I can start walking my cat outside. I’ve also picked up playing Animal Crossing in my excessive amount of time at home this year.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

I do not think I had anything in mind but I do remember saying astronaut a lot turned out to be scared of heights.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job? 

Nothing is ever the same it is a constant changing environment.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? 

To be honest coming here at this time as it breaking out of my day to day and experiencing something new.

What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success? 

Be coachable take criticism and run with it.

What do you like most about The 20? 

The community everyone is willing to assist to what ever level they can.

What do you like to do in your spare time? / What are your hobbies? 

I enjoy building computers and am currently working on my first water cooled rig, other than that currently just playing games. As well as learning the violin and I’m not good at all.

Where are you going on your next vacation?

Next vacation no plans on the book but will most likely back home in Pennsylvania, if not Singapore.

What’s your top life hack?

Mistakes happen, so learn from them.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

A Photographer. 

What’s the most challenging thing about your job? 

Trying to make processes and procedures so things run better, faster, and smarter. 

What do you consider your greatest achievement? 

Going back to college later in life to finish my Associates, then on to my Bachelor’s, and then my Master’s, all while working full time and throughout the process, paying my own way. 

What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success? 

I have two, you must be driven and self-reliant. 

What do you like most about The 20? 

The challenges I face daily and how these challenges help me grow as a person and as an employee of The 20. 

What do you like to do in your spare time? / What are your hobbies? 

 In my spare time,  I like hanging out with good friends and my four legged babies, going to dinner, and relaxing poolside. My hobbies are yard work/gardening, I love to have a beautiful lawn. It gives me a sense of pride. 

Where are you going on your next vacation?

Depending on the COVID19 situation, maybe Hot Springs, or the beach, or if nothing else, my backyard pool!

Meet Michael Winward, NOC Manager

What do you do here at The 20?

I manage the NOC which is responsible for monitoring and responding to system-generated alerts from our partner’s client environments as well as ensuring our core services and tools are properly implemented and functioning effectively. Describe The 20 in three words…

Innovative, Driven, Community.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

A political consultant or lobbyist… yeah, I was a weird kid.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job? 

Time. There is so much I want to accomplish, but the finite nature of time is a constant source of frustration.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? 

Personal? Either teaching my dog how to patiently balance a treat on his snout until just the right moment, or cultivating a loving, trusting, respecting and fun relationship with my wife… both took a lot of work!

Professionally? Cultivating a team with similar attributes. Loving may be going a bit far, but certainly mutual trust, respect, fun and hard work… all things you need to work effectively together. The continuous forward progress of the team I lead every day, for me is the best gauge of my personal success.

What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success? 

Integrity. If you start with integrity, every other quality necessary becomes a part of the equation.

What do you like most about The 20? 

The people. I am working with the most brilliant and interesting characters of my professional career, which is fantastically satisfying. It makes going to work every day (back when we used to go to work) easy and enjoyable.

What do you like to do in your spare time? / What are your hobbies? 

Happiness for me comes easily — a trip to the dog park with my wife and clinically insane Jack Russell is my idea of a good time. As a hobby, I enjoy brewing beer. Coming up next? A green chili and mango gose, and a carrot cake cream ale!

Where are you going on your next vacation?

Anywhere! I can’t wait for this lockdown to end! But it’s hard to make plans before it does. First thing though is probably to visit my family in New Mexico that I haven’t seen in a while due to social distancing.

What’s your top life hack?

For life incoming: Don’t sweat the small stuff that does or does not come at you. You’ll be happier for it.
For life outgoing: Remember the details. It is often small actions and statements that result in big impressions. They will really appreciate that you took the time to regard them.
